Summer 2012 Community Workshops

Parents and community are invited to register for two Summer Community Workshops:

  • Internet Safety – Wednesday, July 25 – 9:00 – 11:00 AM – Harry S. Truman Elementary School – 1400 Gaskill Avenue, Allentown

Think about how technology has changed since you were a student. Technology provides today’s learners with many opportunities, but can also be misused. Parents and schools can work together to protect our children. Participants will learn strategies to safeguard identity and monitor technology use.

  • Social Networking – Monday, July 30 – 9:00 – 11:00 AM – Harry S. Truman Elementary School – 1400 Gaskill Avenue, Allentown

Facebook is changing our lives. How can you protect your children and work with them to use Facebook as a positive tool? Join us to discuss your top questions about Facebook and social networking. The workshop will be organized around the book Facebook for Parents. (facebookforparents.org)

Next TL2014 Parent/Community Workshop – Wednesday, November 9

With increased access to technology in our elementary schools and a personal laptop computer for all students in grades 6-12, the Salisbury Township School District is eager to work with parents to understand the benefits and challenges of increased access by our students, at school and at home. We invite you to register for any or all of the FREE workshops listed below, open to all K-12 parents and community.

Wednesday, November 9 – 7:00-8:30 PM – SHS Library (Get Directions)
Mac Basics & Social Networking – This workshop will consist of two topics – basic information about the Macbook computer and social networking. Learn specifics about the Macbook to help manage home use. Also, learn how teens are sharing, communicating and learning through social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Participants will learn strategies to guide students in the safe, appropriate use of social networking sites to create and manage an online identity. (Child care will be available for this session.)

Wednesday, January 18 – 1:30-3:00 PM – SMS Library (Get Directions)
Google Apps – Do you have a Gmail account or use Google Apps? Salisbury has its own branded version of Google Apps provided to us free by Google. We call it Falcon Apps. Participants will learn how free technology tools are changing the way we communicate, collaborate and learn in the 21st century.

Parent Workshop – Internet Safety

Our first parent workshop was held on Tuesday, October 4, on the topic of Internet Safety. To access the resources that were shared with those in attendance, visit the TL2014 Parent Workshop – Internet Safety site. Here you will find links to resources and videos that were discussed as part of the presentation. In the future, all workshop resources will be posted to this site.

As a result of the conversations during the first workshop, the District will be planning a workshop on Mac Basics to help parents understand the Mac operating system and how to best monitor student home use of the laptop computers. We will schedule this soon and post details online.

Our next parent workshop, Social Networking, will take place on Wednesday, November 9 from 7:00-8:30 PM in the Salisbury High School library. Please register online! We look forward to seeing you!
