Elementary Music Projects

by Randy Ziegenfuss

form4th Grade Elementary Music Project

The 4th grade students from both elementary schools have been working on a technology project where they chose a song about a specific ocean, river or lake using a classroom CD or the internet. Using their chosen song, students developed a presentation using Keynote to illustrate the theme and geographical location of the song. With this activity, the students learned how to download songs using iTunes. The students completed the activity working with a partner.

5th Grade Elementary Music Project

The 5th grade students have been working on a developing their music composition skills using Garage Band.  For this project, the students chose melodic and rhythmical loops and arranged them in an ABA or ABCA form.  To successfully complete the project, students needed to be aware of the genre of the loops they chose so the composition would make musical sense.  For example, they discovered that a Hip Hop A section needed a Hip Hop B section .  If they chose a classical sound for the B section, it would not fit appropriately with the Hip Hop A section. The students worked with partners to complete the project.
