HST – Curriculum and Technology Night
Recently, parents of students at Harry S Truman Elementary School had the opportunity to see examples of students learning at the annual Curriculum and Technology night. The featured projects below are from grades 1, 3 and 5
5th Grade – Dominican Republic
Fifth grade students at HST have been very busy working on a variety of technology projects to showcase their learning about the Dominican Republic for Diversity Day. Students created informational posters, newsletters, and brochures using Pages, Keynote, Garage Band and iMovie. These projects demonstrated student learning about the history, geography, economics, culture, and travel of the Dominican Republic. This year, our students utlized “green screen” in their movie projects. Students were able to import their own image in the foreground of the movie to appear as if they were on location in the Dominican Republic.
3rd Grade – Matter
Third grade students have been studying matter in science class. Each child created a keynote presentation describing the 3 states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. The slideshow consisted of at least 4 slides. The children then presented their slideshow orally to the entire class.
1st Grade – Mother’s Day
Mrs. Attar’s Mother’s Day Tea took place on May 9, 2012. Mrs. Attar invited her student’s mothers and grandmothers to attend. The tea started off having the students place paper corsages on the mothers as they entered the room. Everyone was then treated to hot tea, cold drinks and cookies. The students shared a Keynote presentation with the mothers in which students designed their own page on Keynote, writing why they love their moms. Miss Westfall, HST computer technician, helped record the students. After the presentation, everyone watched a short picture story “Love You Forever” by Robert Munsch. Finally, the students sang 5 Mother’s Day songs and made a flower craft with the mothers as a Mother’s Day gift.
