Informational Writing in Elementary School

by Randy Ziegenfuss

Prior to the holiday break, Mrs. Helfrich’s class had been researching, “Celebrating Christmas in other Countries.” The information gathered was turned into an informational writing piece on the country of their choice. The students then created an accompanying poster, using the Pages program on the Macbook laptops. For the final product, students could choose from any of the Pages poster layouts.  The process equated to research + note taking + organizing information into an informational writing piece + optional typing using Pages + a visual poster to display on the Smart Board = an enhanced presentation that became much more than traditional reading and writing!
